Dear friend and associate:
You’ve heard from
me as a small-business advocate and a citizen participant for over
15 years. You’ve seen me battle the system on a political and
personal front, challenging the economic problems facing our state.
During the 1990s, these battles were part of my own "normal"
costs of doing business and to me reflected the dismal understanding
by our policy makers of operating a business.
Most of us felt that we
were swimming upstream and things would never change. But my how things
have indeed changed! While my recent appointment to the House of Representatives
has been my biggest challenge to date (and a very-painful process
for me and my family), there I was in the Democratic Majority. I was
finally able to educate and share from my first-hand experience, the
negatives and positives proposed legislation about the costs and the
resulting impact on the ability of small businesses to survive while
working to provide a living wage and benefits to their employees.
Thankfully, I have found
many supporters and I was able to stick it out in the 2006 session
only because I was being constantly reminded by people like you that
I was in a rare position "in the belly of the beast" to
carry the message directly to the other legislators from Hawaii’s
local small business and on behalf of their employees and families.
This session showed me what we have suspected for decades, decision
making by legislators is based upon a sea of misinformation and insider
political interests that often block small business reforms that could
help us create jobs and make our economy sustainable.
Now I need your help. I
cannot do it alone. I need to be returned back to the House of Representatives
to make certain that the employers of the largest segment of Hawaii's
workforce, the Small Business Community -- is represented in the smoke-filled
rooms by a strong voice that understands your concern and problems;
the day-to- day operations of maintaining our economic growth and
providing good jobs worthy of the hard-working people of Hawai`i.
Please help me as you can. The easiest way to support me is to make
a contribution for my re-election. I need to immediately raise $35,000
for this House race. You may either send a check to my campaign @
